Captain Speaking “Strangers”
|
StrangersAt 420 William Street (in Vic West between Wilson and Esquimalt Roads) Strangers is an international travelling exhibition of prints from New Zealand, South Africa, and Canada, opening at Xchanges Gallery on January 14th, 2005 at 7 p.m. Printmakers were to work together or alone, breaking down or addressing the idea of “Strangers” to produce prints or objects that are small and easily sent by mail. Most of the Canadians are from Ground Zero Printmakers in Victoria, B.C. The New Zealand artists are teachers from the Eastern Institute of Technology in Hawkes Bay, North Island. The South Africans are associated with Hardground Printmakers, Greatmore Studios, Cavesham Centre for Artists and Writers (Natal), the Muiz Art Studio and Kommetjie Studio in the Cape. The work is diverse and interesting, reflecting different cultural influences.
